Kombucha Soap Recipe

Materials

Total oil weight : 1000g
Water as percent of oil weight : 27.07%
Super Fat/Discount : 7%
Lye Concentration : 33%
Water : Lye Ratio – 2.0303:1

Water : 170g
Lye NaOH : 133g

Oils and fats

  • Olive Oil : 350g
  • Apricot Kernal Oil : 200g
  • Mango Seed Butter : 150g
  • Coconut Oil : 150g
  • Cocoa Butter : 100g
  • Castor Oil : 50g

Essential Oil Blend

  • Lavender EO/ Lavandula Angustifolia :10g
  • Sweet Orange EO / Citrus Sinensis : 10g
  • Patchouli EO / Pogostemon Cablin: 10g

Colourants & Additives

  • Kombucha Scoby / Tea : 100g
  • Pink Clay / Illite : 20g

SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices! That means goggles, gloves and long sleeves. Always soap in a well-ventilated area.

Method

  • Stick Blend the scoby and Tea and place to one side.
  • Slowly add the lye water to the oils and stick blend until thin trace.
  • Add in the kombucha and Blend.
  • Add the Essential Oil blend, and whisk until completely blended in.
  • Split off a small portion of the batter and blend in the Pink clay colourant.
  • Pour in the Pink Batter to the main bowl using an in the pot swirl technique. Pour into moulds.
  • Lastly sprinkle the Botanicals over the top. With Any botanicals I don’t cover the top of the Soap whist it Saponifies, this can cause the Botanicals to burn and brown.
  • Allow the soap to stay in the mould for about 16-24hr or until its firm enough to remove from the mould.
  • Unmould and cut into bars. Allow to cure for 4-6 weeks.
