Chamomile Honey Soap Recipe

Materials

Total oil weight : 1000g
Water as percent of oil weight : 26.07%
Super Fat/Discount : 10%
Lye Concentration : 33%
Water : Lye Ratio – 2.0303:1

Water : 250g (10g reduction has been made for Honey)
Lye NaOH : 128g

Oils and fats

  • Olive Oil: 370g
  • Shea Butter : 150g
  • Almond Oil, Sweet : 250g
  • Coconut Oil : 200g
  • Beeswax: 30g

Essential Oil Blend

  • Ylang Ylang / Cananga Odorata :10g
  • SandalWood Amyris/ Amyris Balsmifera :10g

Colourants & Additives

  • Ground Chamomile Petals 2g
  • Ground Oats 2g
  • Honey 10g

SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices! That means goggles, gloves and long sleeves. Always soap in a well-ventilated area.

Method

  • Melt down all the Oils and Butters, Beeswax can cause a pseudo trace so soap slightly hotter than usual around 35/40C.
  • Add in the ground Chamomile and Oats to your Oils and mix/ alternatively you can infuse with your Olive Oil ahead of time – leaving for 2 weeks before use.
  • Slowly add the lye water to the oils and stick blend until thin trace.
  • Add the Essential Oil blend and whisk until completely blended in.
  • Add your Honey and blend thoroughly before adding to your moulds.
  • Texture to the top in a design of your liking.
  • At this point you can add any Botanicals to the top.
  • Allow the soap to stay in the mould for about 16-24hr or until its firm enough to remove from the mould.
  • Unmould and cut into bars. Allow to cure for 4-6 weeks.
